Costco in Gilroy had it 2 weeks ago. They also had another variety of Peet's that was organic, but this one was ground, not whole bean.

I only buy their whole chickens from Costco. I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices for the separated meat. Usually most of their 2 packs of chickens are in the $25-$28 range, but there's always a couple that are around $20-$21. I always get these as I can't justify another 5 to 7 bucks for what might just be water weight.

You forgot to mention the rampant antibiotic use in Foster Farms chicken and pretty much all conventional chicken.

The prices for the separated meat are good compared to buying separated organic chicken elsewhere. It is really hard to use a whole chicken for a lot of recipes that call for chunks of meat, and if you're like me and prefer the dark meat anyway, you're getting a lot of less desirable parts. When you buy a whole chicken you're paying for parts that are less usable, like wings and the neck, and bones that most people don't eat. When I buy the boneless skinless thighs, I'm getting 100% usable meat, all from my favorite cut. All told, definitely worth the extra $1.50 per pound! (I agree that buying boneless skinless breasts is a bad idea, but mostly because dark meat is far tastier and moister than white meat, and way less expensive!)

Hi Harry,
Guess what we saw at the NE San Jose Costco today? Northrock bikes! :) Model XC6. I think they just arrived and there was no price tag yet. We'll write a proper post for them once we get the price. Item#910010. Hopefully you'll see them in your store soon.

Olli

hi Larry,
They're still available in the south bay area Costco as well. The organic version is the Gaia blend and like you said, it's the ground coffee and not whole bean.

Hi Susan,
The Swisspers cotton rounds have reappeared in the NE San Jose store! Just saw them today and bought one immediately. I tried one and it's not as thick or soft as Delon. But it doesn't fall apart with use, like some of the Walgreens or Target ones that I've bought in the past.
Regards,
Olli

Thanks. Since I live in the Las Vegas area, I asked if they planned on selling Peet's there. They said no. Oh, well. I can get it in a few supermarkets here, but only the small 12 oz pkgs, which are about $10-$12. It's too expensive to have Peet's ship the coffee to me too.

Hi Ollie!

It is very kind of you to remember my earlier inquiry and I appreciate your keeping an eye out ( and testing them out!). I should be headed to my Costco tomorrow and will report back.

Depending on your climate, I'd advise planting pepper seeds in the house first (I let mine get to at least 6 inches tall,) then transplant one plant to the center of each planter that has been drilled for drainage, filled with a good potting mix and watered thoroughly. Tamp the pepper's root ball firmly into its hole and add a plant support stake or tomato cage that you will later tie the pepper plant to as it grows. Then, starting 5 to 6 inches from the stem of the baby pepper plant and using very dry hands, set out a series of carrot seeds to surround it, fanning the seeds out to within an inch or so of the outer edge of the planter. Try to space the seeds two to three inches apart from one another, just dropping them onto the top of the wet soil. It's tedious work and the seeds are tiny, but spacing them carefully like this will save you the painful task of thinning the plants later. Once the carrot seeds are in place on the soil surface, cover them with a thin layer of dry sand (builders or play sand, not beach sand) and spray everything lightly with water, being careful not to disturb the sand. Over the next several days, lightly spray the surface with water again if the soil dries out. If all goes well, your carrots should sprout within a week or two, depending upon variety. They will quickly grow to form a little feathery forest that will shade the soil surrounding your pepper plant. For the rest of the growing season just tug out any tiny weeds that you spy, pick off visible insect pests and water the whole planter when needed.

Once the peppers are done producing for the season, or after first frost, pull out one carrot and test it for flavor. If the carrot is not bitter, you can pull out the rest of your crop. This is one of the most rewarding and fun times in the garden, so try to share the experience with someone who will enjoy it as much as you do. You'll not only get a large golden treasure to store in loosely closed plastic bags in your fridge (when harvesting pinchl off the green tops to add to your compost pile,) but homegrown carrots tend to get even sweeter during storage.

I hope this method of growing peppers and carrots in the same large pot works as well for you as it did for me. Enjoy!

It's hard to tell without measurements, but it appears you might be able to fit 3 or 4 chickens, depending on the breed. You'd also want to have an additional fenced & covered outdoor space for them to scratch around in. Be sure to supply plenty of bedding for that.
