We have some of those. My dog loves catching frisbees and can get up to 7ft in height. I like how the old ones had chondroitin in them.

My hubby and I bought 5 of these planters at Costco last year because
the garden area of our new house was not ready to plant by the time we
moved into the place in May. Very rocky soil here in New Hampshire, so
above ground was our only choice if we were going to get any homegrown veggies in
2013. I drilled holes for drainage in the planter bottoms, filled the
planters with a standard planting mix supplemented with mushroom compost
and then planted carrots, lettuce, snap peas, peppers and arugula.
While the weather quickly got too warm for lettuce, arugula and snap
peas to do very well, we did get small crops even from those plants. But
the carrots and peppers, all planted from seed, were nothing short of
amazing!!! By fall I had harvested about 10 lbs. of peppers from just
two plants and nearly 40 lbs. of carrots from just two pots!!! Here it
is, nearly April of the following year, and I still have 15 lbs. of
carrots in plastic bags in our fridge. Although our raised beds will be
ready for planting directly this year, we've already purchased seven
more of these planters from Costco to fill with extra veggie plants. The
planters are decorative enough that we plan to place them next to the
walk leading to our front door since that area gets more sun than our
back yard where the raised bed veggie garden has been built. I'll definitely grow the hot weather plants in the planters again, adding
tomatoes, cantaloupes, cucumbers and maybe even a compact size
watermelon plant. Gardening in these planters couldn't be easier -- very
few weeds, not much watering needed, and a lot less bending over than
when you plant in a regular garden. I couldn't be happier. :-)

Re: Vitamix 6300

I purchased this Vitamix 6300 for $499.99 at the Nashua, New Hampshire Costco in December of 2013. While it seems that it is not as good a deal (if you can call any Vitamix a "deal") as the Vitamix 5200 available in the warehouse for about $100 less or the Vitamix 5200 package on Costco.com that includes a dry mix container, the 6300 has worked very well for me. The main difference between the 6300 and the 5200 models is the inclusion of three pre-programmed settings on the 6300 that automatically blend smoothies, frozen desserts and hot soups. I use the smoothie switch nearly every day. Because I make all my own bread, tortillas, noodles, rice skins, etc., I did purchase the extra dry blending container at the warehouse on the same day I bought the 6300. This container is designed for grinding grains into flour and cost $99 at the warehouse. It does a very good job, but most people probably wouldn't use it enough to justify the additional expense.

I still feel guilty about the price of this blender, but I must say that it has done a consistently excellent job of breaking down just about anything I've thrown into it. I still have a fairly new Ninja blender that, honestly, cannot hold a candle to the Vitamix when it comes to creating a silky smooth blend. I'm a vegan, so I now reserve the Ninja for chopping meats for making burgers and sausages for my omnivore husband. The Vitamix could surely handle these tasks, but because the Vitamix container does not come apart for cleaning, I'd rather not risk contaminating my fresh veggie and fruit concoctions with any possible meat residue. Fussy? Yeah, I admit that I am!

Hi Dragonkist,
Thanks for your detailed review! And congrats on having a great harvest last year!
We planted lettuce and carrots from seed last year as well and were also surprised by how easy it was! I was previously intimidated by planting from seed....didn't think they'd grow under my care ;)

Which type of peppers did you plant - hot peppers or bell peppers? Which varieties did you plant?

We used seeds from Burpee. Carrots were the organic "Short and Sweet" variety (photo below) and we tried 2 lettuce varieties - "Green Ice" and "Mesclun Mix". All grew very easily! :)

hi Dragonkist,
Thanks for sharing your personal experiences with the Vitamix 6300. I too have wondered about the high $500 price tag but it sounds like it's able to perform tasks that the cheaper ones can't. Has the Vitamix replaced your food processor?

Olli,
I planted heirloom non-GMO varieties from SeedsNow.com. The peppers were a bell variety and the carrots were an old French variety called Nantes. Both produced very large vegetables and I swear every carrot seed I planted around the pepper plants grew and grew very well. That said, I have been gardening for sixty years, so I should know what I'm doing by now. ;-) This year I have chosen a great number of other varieties to grow, as variety is the spice of life and one never knows when one may fall in love with something new. :-)

Just remember, a seed's only job in life is to grow. You just have to provide the right conditions. :-)

Olli,
As it happens, my Cuisinart food processor recently developed the same problem a lot of Cuisinarts do after a few years. The central spindle started swelling so I could no longer get the blades detached easily. So I gave up on that a few months ago and had been using the Ninja as a food processor, which was less than satisfactory, I must admit. While the Vitamix has now replaced many of those food processor functions, I find I no longer need a dedicated processor for the few tasks that remain, such as slicing items thinly or making long shreds of veggies such as potatoes. I have a sharp knives and a hand shredder and I know how to use them. For kneading dough I just use my Cuisinart stand mixer, which has turned out to be much more reliable than any Cuisinart food processor I've owned over the years. Much easier to clean, too. :-)

An added note on the Vitamix, unlike the Ninja, the Vitamix easily processes whole fruits, seeds and all, into utter smoothness within seconds, adding nutrition to my diet. And I've made many types of nut butters and non-dairy milks with it, as well. Not many of these blending jobs take more than a minute or so. But the machine can get noisy, just like the Ninja, so I always wear earplugs when blending on the higher speeds.

hi Dragonkist,
I haven't tried planting bell peppers from seed but I'd like to. Your success is very encouraging and I feel compelled to try it now:) We too bought a few of these whiskey planters and I have an empty one waiting to be planted. I don't have the years of experience you have though. I'm merely a novice gardener who's trying to get over the "fear" of growing from seed ;) I researched what was easiest to grow and lettuce and carrots were on the list so I tried them and was really excited when the seedlings emerged. I also tried zinnias and marigolds (again, because they're supposed to be easy) and they grew too :)
Happy Spring!

Hello Maysam,
This post was published on January 18th, 2014 so Costco had this item in the store about 2 months ago and you could have purchased it then. Unfortunately, most, if not all, of the home furniture have been cleared away for patio furniture so it's no longer available. At least we've not seen it in the stores here anymore.

Re: Wilson NCAA Replica Basketball – Costco vs Target

It looks like the packaging is not the only difference.

If you look closely at the Costco version, below "Replica Game Ball", the lettering reads " ---Moisture Absorbing Cover---" followed by the bar code.

Those seem to be missing from the Target version. Also, the Target ball seems to more of a bright orange color, even accounting for the differences in lighting.

Anyways, thanks for all your hard work and efforts. Every time I take a photo of even one product at a store, I feel like a criminal -- so you guys must have guts of steel to do the work for this site!

Re: Hansgrohe Talis C Kitchen Faucet

Our kitchen faucet went kaput this week and I remembered your post about this faucet last year. I went to Costco yesterday to buy this. Serendipitously, it is on a $60 manufacturer coupon this month(march 2014 until 3/30/14). Waiting for our plummer to determine if it's the right configuration to replace our current faucet (i.e. if the 1 and 3 holes works). But Costco's price($199 in store) was better than amazon's ($284) and Homedepots ($687), so I'm hoping this will fit.

hi Akansha,
Wow, that's a great price for the Hansgrohe faucet. Hope it fits. Thanks too for the other prices. I don't think I ever made the post to compare prices at other stores ;)
