They seem to work as designed. Can't say that's entirely desirable. The nightlight activates when it's only slightly darker than full bright in a room, making it active all the time if motion sensing is off. So, if all you really want is a power failure light, then enable motion sensing and cover the motion sensor. It'll only come on when the power goes out.
