From our experience, it depends on the store. Some stores automatically give everyone the discounts and don't need you to show the coupon book at checkout. The cashier told me that it was to speed up the checkout line. But others may still want to see the book when if the item says "Book or app required" in the coupon book. We normally just wave the coupon book and ask "do you need this?" at checkout.
