This is such an old model that I'm surprised that Costco is even selling it. Blendtec is a gimmicks and tricks company that hypes up very scientific and advanced sounding technology that ends up either being unremarkable or inferior to the main competition (starts with Vita and ends with mix). Not having a "plunger" is actually a downside because the Vitamix tamper actually let's you be very sloppy about overloading the jar with solids. And the "sonically welded" jar of the Blendtec is actually prone to cracking and leaking over time (1-2 years) at the weld but isn't easily replaceable because they didn't just use a rubber gasket to seal like Vitamix. You have to replace the whole jar on the Blendtec while you can buy a $20 blade assembly replacement for Vitamix. Since they're similar price points there's basically no reason for buying this over a Vitamix.
