Coleman Instant vs. Ridgeway (Costco) Screen House
I bought both the Coleman Instant screen canopy and Costco's Ridgeway by Kelty because each has their pros and cons and wanted to get the best of the two. Coleman instant up is truly quick with two people but staking it and in/out of the package takes significant time. The Ridgeway was especially nice because of the magnetic doors and straight up and down walls. Ridgeway takes longer to put up than Coleman but is insignificant when considering staking and unpacking and repacking it away. The Ridgeway needs to be staked properly or the magnetic doors won't close. One of the two doorways was too wide to close because the roof poles pull on the door frame at the top a little too much. So I used a bungee cord across between the two corners at the top to slightly pull the doorway square again and allow the door to shut every time. I don't know if every Ridgeway has that issue.
What really made me decide which to keep was that the Ridgeway 9X11' is actually bigger inside than the Coleman at 11X11. It is the straight wall vs. Coleman's slanted wall that makes the difference. Add to that the convenience of the magnetic door. However the Coleman folds down nicely but other reviewers elsewhere had concerns about the locking mechanism on the poles which I suspect may be real issue as I found that in four tries of putting the Coleman up and down that the poles didn't always lock every time.
The Ridgeway instructions for packing it away should say "Fold the 11' length of the base into fifths, 26 1/2", then roll it up using the package of the poles in the center of the roll."
When done the Ridgeway package is about 1/2 the Coleman package, see attached photo. I rate them both a 4 out 5 stars because the Ridgeway needed my tweak to insure the magnetic door to work and the Coleman needs a magnetic door.
